Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
This site is a government-wide compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities providing assistance or benefits to the American public. It contains financial and nonfinancial assistance programs administered by departments and establishments of the Federal government.
Charles A. Dana Foundation
Principal funding areas are health and education. Health grants are primarily for research. Education grants are for school improvement.

National Endowment for the Arts
NEA is an independent agency of the US government and makes grants for projects in the visual and performing arts.  Another good source for individual professional development.

National Foundation for the Improvement of Education
This foundation was established by the National Education Association and Association membership is required for some grants offered. Purpose is to improve quality of public education.
